We’ve named him Leonidas, or Leo. AKC name: Lion King of Sparta (Rob doesn’t know that last part yet, but nor does he care). I had planned to bring Isis with me when I pick him up, but that just doesn’t seem like the best idea anymore, since Rob won’t be able to go withContinue reading “Bringing home baby Leo”

Baby brother on the way
We’re picking him up next week. He’s the fattest, I mean biggest, one in his litter. He doesn’t have a name yet. Some of my suggestions, which have been vetoed, were: Kilo Bandito Colossus Sumo
If German shepherd puppies were cats, she’d be a crazy cat lady
I keep getting my hopes up about potential baby brothers for Isis and then being sadly disappointed. Last weekend, I visited three places with German shepherd litters. At least they were actually German shepherds this time, and I saw the parents to prove it (see post below). The boys in the first litter didn’t reallyContinue reading “If German shepherd puppies were cats, she’d be a crazy cat lady”
An old maid, just like my daughter
While shopping for puppies, I met a few mommy and daddy dogs. Some of them looked a little bit like Isis, except with drooping nipples, and one had a long coat and a black face and looked nothing like her. I asked how old they are and learned that they’re three. Isis is three. ButContinue reading “An old maid, just like my daughter”
Keeping it real
All is not as well as I so optimistically declared last week. My foot still bothers me and my TMJ has gotten bad again. Active release therapy for TMJ is not as much fun as having my foot rubbed, and I feel sore after. I’ve had two treatments and I hope that it’s working, becauseContinue reading “Keeping it real”
I just love a happy ending
I really thought I’d nailed this whole pest control thing. I solved the mouse, nay mice, in the car problem with a thorough cleaning and scented dryer sheets. About a week ago, I discovered mouse turds on the kitchen counter. No problem at all. We’ve been here before. I set a trap. The next morning,Continue reading “I just love a happy ending”
Happiness is a warm puppy
If anyone ever asks, the way to my heart is with a dog. You know how some people are baby crazy? I’m dog crazy. My best friend just had a baby and he is beautiful. I met him at a week and a half and I wanted to hold him. His aunt said, “You canContinue reading “Happiness is a warm puppy”
Baby brother on the way
We’re getting a baby brother for Isis in 2010. I’ve thought for a long time that we’d get another dog. The sick side of me needs a backup, because Isis won’t be around forever, and I don’t think I could stand coming home to this house without her. Also, she needs a playmate for herContinue reading “Baby brother on the way”
Click it and trick it
I’m reading a book on clicker training called Reaching the Animal Mind. I’m ambivalent and have skipped entire sections dealing with the training of dolphins at Sea World-type establishments. I don’t doubt that dolphins can be trained to do marvelous tricks, but I’m uncomfortable with it because I am opposed to marine theme parks. AContinue reading “Click it and trick it”
Visualizing success
Isis has progressed in her training to the point that she can be in a class with other dogs. I’m so proud of her and she’s doing really well. She hasn’t been around other dogs in about a year. Especially other reactive dogs and while on leash. Other dogs are working at a more “advanced”Continue reading “Visualizing success”
