Another reason I love Rob

He took me to see Weird Al for my birthday, even though he’s not a huge fan. (Neither of those is the reason. The first was a boyfriendly obligation as far as I was concerned, and I knew that he would enjoy the show more than he thought he would.) Al closed with a littleContinue reading “Another reason I love Rob”

Fashion backward

While waiting for Rob to finish uploading the entire contents of his cassette collection to digital format and then to his iPod, so we could watch Prison Break, I watched an episode of Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style. The subject was a mother of two who wore nothing but capri pants and T-shirts. As theContinue reading “Fashion backward”

Mental tetris

Ahh, my favorite kind of work day. Aside from the ones where I’m taking pictures on a beach all day. I’m designing the second half our our magazine and I’m totally mesmerized by InDesign. I can sit here all day and move little boxes around. I can’t pinpoint it, but it looks better in thisContinue reading “Mental tetris”

Wrong, wrong, wrong

Critics who pan “The Brave One” are simply wrong. Contrived? No. Boring? Absolutely not. Morally ambiguous? Sure, but who says that’s a bad thing? One review calls it a “revenge fantasy,” and I think that’s an appropriate description of the genre. (Spoiler ahead, but not of the ending.) Let me say first that I findContinue reading “Wrong, wrong, wrong”

Follow up

A few things I didn’t have time to type up yesterday before I headed out to the state fair. For work. (This is the third time I’ve been to this fair by myself, but usually it’s to see Weird Al. Rob’s taking me to see Weird Al on my birthday next month, but I wasContinue reading “Follow up”

While we’re on the subject

What’s with this conceit of having an entire student body work at a country club for the summer? Or even hang out at a country club for the summer? (I’m talking to you Beverly Hills, 90210 and Saved By The Bell and copycat High School Musical 2) I mean, I’ll defend Beverly Hills, 90210 toContinue reading “While we’re on the subject”

Lord help me

I just downloaded a song from High School Musical 2.

I need a third TiVo

Mine’s full of So You Think You Can Dance episodes that I can not delete. Last season, I kept wanting to go back and rewatch dances and couldn’t and I was so thrilled to see a bunch of my favorites performed again in the finale. Which I still have on my TiVo. This season, IContinue reading “I need a third TiVo”

Dance dance

For the record, I think Sabra will win. Although Lacey’s the better dancer, technically. She’s amazing. I like all four finalists; only Neil would surprise me if he won, but he’s surprised me already. I found him rather annoying at the start of the season. I couldn’t figure out why he didn’t get cut beforeContinue reading “Dance dance”

Three things I did not enjoy about seeing the Simpsons on the big screen

The stupid kids movie trailers. The phony laughs from the male moviegoers, who want to make sure everyone else in the theatre knows that they got the joke. Not being able to press the TiVo instant replay button to see how the hammer got stuck in Homer’s eye. Other than that, it was fan-diddly-tastic!
