This is probably news to a lot of you, but there’s a movie coming out this weekend about Hairspray. And some book about a boy wizard…? Ha, just kidding. Those Hairspray ads are all over the place, and evidently, the major media outlets are all very concerned about whether Harry Potter will die at theContinue reading “Have you heard?”

Ugly, Pretty and Special
I just finished the Uglies trilogy. (Yeah, it’s that young adult series. Seriously, you want to fight about it?) Pretty smart trilogy. I’m sad it’s over, and sort of sad about the ending, although there was no other way for it to end. That happens a lot, I guess. The series takes place in aContinue reading “Ugly, Pretty and Special”
Not in Portland
I always get lost in Portland. Always. I have fairly decent maps of downtown, but none that actually show how to get back to the hotel. Which is really easy to find, if one can find the freeway. Also, even if I decide what exit will get me closest to my destination, somehow, I neverContinue reading “Not in Portland”
The End
Listening to audio books has its pros and cons, naturally. The biggest negative is not being able to flip back a few pages or several chapters to re-read something, and then flip back to where you were. Also, if for example, your boyfriend wants to listen to a shitty CD in your car, and heContinue reading “The End”
Goal setting
I have to post at least twice a day in order to hit 1,000 posts by my 5th Bloggiversary. Guess I better get back to taking pictures of my dog obsessively if I’m going to have a shot. I could hit post now, and then finish my train of thought in a new post, butContinue reading “Goal setting”
I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end
Bummer for anyone who planned to do something outdoors today. It’s raining. I suppose it could clear up by noon… I had planned to walk Isis over to the produce market on our street, to check out these “early spring salad greens” they’re hawking. Guess I’ll have to drive. Yesterday I managed to do allContinue reading “I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end”
Well read
I read a book about how to fit more reading in my life, which is where I got my audiobook inspiration, which turned out to be a splendid idea, as I am spending at least 10 hours a week in my car, it seems, and can get through a book a week that way. SoContinue reading “Well read”
Heroine chic
As I mentioned, I was thoroughly enjoying Lucky, a memoir by Alice Sebold, author of The Lovely Bones. Or maybe I didn’t mention the enjoying part, just the grisliness of the rape depiction. The rape is described about a bajillion more times throughout the book, as she reports it to the police and her parents.Continue reading “Heroine chic”
I feel "off"
Could be because I didn’t come into the office yesterday after my dental appointment. (Something about having a half-numb face makes me want to lie on the couch.) Could be because I’m listening to an audiobook of a memoir that opens with a graphic description of the author’s rape. Could be moon wobble. I justContinue reading “I feel "off"”
Others like me
I wouldn’t have elected to read “Prince of Tides,” were it not this month’s selection for a book club at the library. Since I have no friends of my own in my area (seriously. I socialize exclusively with Rob, and friends and family of Rob), I thought a book group would be a neat wayContinue reading “Others like me”
