About Me

Kari Neumeyer

I am the author of Bark and Lunge: Saving My Dog from Training Mistakes. You can read some of the reviews here. And you can find resources to help with your reactive dog here.

The stories of my dogs Isis, Leo, and Mia have been told in my blog posts. Mia passed away in May 2020 at age 16, and we lost Leo to cancer Dec. 5, 2020. Truly, watching Leo decline from cancer was worse than having it myself.

April 1, 2023 will be my third cancerversary. I have been cancer-free since June 2020 after being treated for low-grade serous ovarian cancer at the beginning of the pandemic. My belly button saved my life. I am working now on a memoir with the working title of Cancer Wasn’t the Worst Part.

I grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from USC’s School of Cinema-Television. After attempting to make a living in Hollywood for a couple of years, I enrolled in the master’s program at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism and discovered a passion for copyediting almost as strong as my love for telling stories.

Since 2003, I have lived in Washington state. I have been a reporter for the Skagit Valley Herald and The Olympian, had a brief stint in the Office of Communications at Western Washington University, and am now the communications manager for the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission and serve on the board of STAAR Ovarian Cancer Foundation as Vice Chair–Marketing & Communications.

My blog posts do not represent the opinions of any of my employers past or present.
